IIT’s home is an urban, 120-acre campus designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, the influential 20th-century architect who directed the architecture school for 20 years. Founded in 1890, the school is just three miles south of Chicago’s Loop, and is located directly across from the campus. Miesian-style buildings are adorned by trees and grassy open parks. Crown Hall, home of IIT’s College of Architecture, is a National Historic Landmark.
